Conditions Treated
Our goal is to eliminate the obstacles and impediments that prevent an individual from being well and allowing them to thrive. We take a truly holistic approach and follow a slightly modified version of the philosophy set forth by one of the four founding professors of Johns Hopkins Hospital, Sir William Osler, who stated:
“The good doctor treats the disease; the great doctor treats the patient who has the disease.”
In the spirit of this quote we abide by the slightly modified version as stated by Dr. Robert Luby (Executive Director of Education for the Institute of Functional Medicine), which eliminates the label of disease and instead replaces it with the word condition. We look at a patient as someone who is expressing a condition, as opposed to someone who HAS a disease.
As a result, that which can be expressed can be silenced. That which is a condition is conditional. Therefore, if you change the conditions of your life your condition will change.
We’ll never claim that we treat or cure a specific disease, but rather through sound scientific principles look to empower and thus guide our patients down a better path of health through modifications in diet, exercise and lifestyle.
As such, our integrative care approach under the guidance of Dr. Rob Reier is based on the following:
- Complementary to and inclusive of a variety of treatment modalities
- Holistically oriented, focusing on mind, body and spirit
- Focuses on optimal health – not just the absence of symptoms or dis-ease
- Requires patient to take an active participatory role in health creation
- Acknowledges multi-factorial nature of complex situation, requiring a multi-dimensional approach
- A preference for natural, non-toxic therapies – harnessing the body’s ability to heal itself
How It Works
We provide episodes of care over the course of 3-9 months depending on the severity of your situation. Most of our patients experience significant improvements to their wellness within a few weeks of starting to work with our care team.
Discovery Consultation
In-depth ~60-minute intake visit with Dr. Reier reviewing health history previously completed by patient. This is an information gathering and sharing session. Most advice will be deferred until after lab and physical exam results are in and there has been time to thoughtfully consider your case.
Step Two
The second visit is generally a week or two later. It is at this time that Dr. Reier will discuss the review of findings and make recommendations specifically tailored to you. Follow-up visits are usually scheduled in approximately 4-8 weeks from this visit to evaluate progress and make any adjustments in your program.
Continuing Support
How often you see Dr. Reier after visit 3 will depend on why you are being treated. However, labs are generally repeated 3 months after your initial visit.
Email contact with Dr. Reier and Staff for quick conversations are always welcomed.
